David
Bixler’s Auction Project featuring Grammy Award winning pianist Arturo
O’Farrill, with Heather Bixler (violin), Roland Guerrero (percussion), Vince
Cherico (drums and cymbals), Carlo DeRosa (bass), and David Bixler (composer,
arranger, and alto saxophone).
Mr. Bixler’s composition took shape at a fundraiser for his daughter’s school.
Combining Latin and Celtic music and a unique instrumentation, Auction Project
is jazz with Afro-Celtic sympathies. Mr. Bixler is a member of the faculty at
the Cali School.

program features literature of the contemporary jazz ensemble. Works include
Jeffrey Kunkel’s Darkness Descending, composed in honor of his mentor,
the legendary jazz pianist, composer and theorist George Russell who died in
July 2009.
