Montclair, NJ (11/9/09) – The Montclair State field hockey season was extended on Monday as the Red Hawks claimed the No. 2 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Mid-Atlantic Championship released by the ECAC.

Montclair State (12-6) will face No. 7 seed Gwynedd-Mercy (11-6) at Sprague Field on Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 pm. The winner will advance to the semifinals at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, November 14 with the champioship game taking place on Sunday, November 15. The Red Hawks enter the tournament with a three-game winning streak as MSU has outscored its opponents, 14-2 during that span.

This will be Montclair State's ninth appearance in the ECAC Tournament and third in the last four years. Two seasons ago, Montclair successfully defended its ECAC crown as the Red Hawks, seeded fourth, knocked off top seed William Paterson 1-0 in the semifinals before sliping past FDU-Florham in the title contest, 2-1. Montclair's record in the ECAC Tournament is 12-4 winning the championship in 1990, 2001, 2006 and 2007. Montclair State was the runner-up in 2000.

MSU has a limited history against this year's field with the exception of Kean. Montclair is 37-16-6 all-time against the Cougars, including this season's 2-1 win in Union on October 20. The Red Hawks are 5-2 against Wilkes, 3-0 versus Catholic and 1-3 in four meetings with Wesley.
