Montclair, NJ (11/15/09) —Senior punter Steve Layden (Westampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday.
Layden becomes the second different Red Hawk to earn NJAC Special Teams
Player of the Week honors after helping MSU secure the 2009 NJAC
Championship with a 14-6 victory over rival Kean. In a defensive
struggle in which every yard of field position mattered, Layden punted
11 times in the contest and helped set up both Red Hawk touchdowns by
downing punts inside Kean’s 1 and 6-yard lines. The 11 punts in the
victory marked the second most in any NJAC game this season. The win
secured the 18th NJAC Championship for MSU and their first league title
since 2003.
