Men's Basketball Clipped by Case Western in Allegheny Holiday Tournament

Meadville, PA (11/29/09) -- Case Western Reserve University (4-2) junior center Eric Duerr (Gibsonia, PA) led four Spartans in double figures with a game-high 18 points as Case Western Reserve defeated Montclair State University (3-2), 67-63, in the consolation game of the Allegheny College Holiday Tournament.  Duerr had a double-double as he also grabbed 10 rebounds and posted three blocks. 

Montclair State, who led for the first 14 minutes of the game, jumped ahead nine, 23-14, at 9:26 on a three-point play by Robert Jackson (Carteret, NJ / Carteret).  Case Western Reserve then scored 10 unanswered points to grab its first lead of the game, 24-23, at 5:54 with a senior guard Bryan Erce (Berwyn, IL) jumper.  From there, the Spartans would lead by as many as six, but the Red Hawks cut it to two, 31-29, at the half.

After an early tie, Case Western Reserve controlled the second half.  Junior guard Colin Mulholland (Jacksonville, FL) gave the Spartans their first double figure lead, 53-41, with a three-pointer at 10:10.  Daniel McRae (Orange, NJ / Newark Tech) brought Montclair State back and within one, 62-61, on a dunk with 43 seconds left in the game, but Case Western Reserve held on for the win. 

Mulholland finished with 14 points. Erce and junior guard Reid Anderson (Avon Lake, OH) scored 11 points each.  Erce also had a game-high five assists.

McRae finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots for Montclair State. He was named to the All-Tournament Team. Ken Dudley (Willingboro, NJ / Burlington Tech) added 12 points while junior guard Tom Bonard (Westfield, NJ / Westfield) recorded 10 points off the bench.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, December 2 when they travel to Newark to face Rutgers-Newark in their 2009-10 New Jersey Athletic Conference opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
