Men's Basketball Falls to Rowan

Montclair, NJ (1/16/10) - Senior guard Allen Pritchett (Camden, NJ / Woodbury) posted 14 of his 18 points in the second half as Rowan University held off Montclair State 79-70 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference inter-divisional matchup at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

Tyson Hartnett (Medford, NJ / Shawnee) and Steve Secula (Mullica Hill, NJ / Clearview Regional) added 16 and 14 points, respectively as the Profs snapped a two-game losing streak, improving to 11-4 overall, 3-2 in the NJAC South Division.

Junior guard Rodney Freeney (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) had a season-high 21 points for Montclair State, which dropped its fourth straight game. The Red Hawks are 9-7 overall, 2-4 in the NJAC North.

The Profs led 38-27 at the break and stretched that lead to as many as 14 in the second half as Pritchett hit a jumper with 9:31 left to make the score 61-47. MSU would chip away at the deficit and pulled within fourh at 68-64 with 1:55 left as John Byrne (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) sank a free throw. But Secula hit a layup to start a 6-0 run as Hartnett's two foul shots with 57 ticks remaining made the score 74-64.

Rowan is back in action on Monday, January 18 as the Profs host Penn State-Abington in Glassboro in a Noon start. Montclair State is home on Wednesday to take on NJAC North leader and local rival William Paterson at 6:00 pm.
