Montclair, NJ (1/16/10) - Senior forward Catherine Cristino (Farmingdale, NJ / Colts Neck) scored
17 points to lead three players in double figures as Montclair State
won its fourth straight with a 73-53 victory over Rowan University in a
New Jersey Athletic Conference inter-divisional contest at the Panzer
Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
Junior forward Kisandra Ayanbeku (Brockton, MA / Randolph) added 15 points and nine rebounds while junior Jamilee Pflug (Clark, NJ / Arthur L. Johnson)
collected 11 points and five assists as the Red Hawks remained tied for
the NJAC North lead at 5-1 while upping its overall mark to 11-5.
Junior guard Gina Catanzariti (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) had 13
points and four rebounds for Rowan, which had its two-game winning
streak snapped with the loss. The Profs are 9-6 overall, 3-2 in the
NJAC South.
Montclair State jumped out to a 9-0 lead as they kept Rowan off the
board for the first 3:14 of the game. The Profs responded with a with a
10-3 run of its own as Catanzariti hit a jumper to make the score 12-10
with 13:20 left. The Red Hawks then seized control with a 15-5 run to
take a 27-15 advantage on Pflug's layup with 8:11 to play. MSU led
37-21 at the break.
The Red Hawks and Profs both return to action on Wednesday, January 20
with home conference games. Montclair hosts division co-leader and
13th-ranked William Paterson while Rowan faces Richard Stockton
College. Both games are scheduled for 6:00 pm.
