Swimming and Diving Falls to Rowan in NJAC Dual Meet

Glassboro, NJ (1/23/10) – The Montclair State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each fell to Rowan University on Saturday. The MSU men fell 180-102 while the women’s team suffered a 167.4-126.5 setback to the Profs.

Both teams fell to 4-5 overall. The Red Hawk men are 0-3 in the NJAC while the are now 1-2 in conference action.

The Montclair State men’s 200 yard medley relay finished second in 1:38.95.  The medley relay consisted of Sean Chambrovich (jr. Allenhurst, NJ/Red Bank Reg.), Chris Lee (so. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills), Nikolas Lumkong (fr. Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and Thomas Long (fr. Morristown, NJ/Morristown).  The men’s 400 yard freestyle relay took second (3:20.13) with Blaise Lacca (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Michael Smith (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.), Long and Zak Westerberg (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton N.).    

Westerberg won the 50 yard freestyle in 22.07 and he took second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:06.65).  Matt Hyde (sr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) came in second (10:54.80) in the 1000 yard freestyle followed by Daniel Gordon (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) third (11:02.88). 

In the 200 yard butterfly, Sean French (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and Gordon were second (2:15.35) and third (2:21.89) respectively.  French also came in second in the 100 yard butterfly (56.35).  Smith took second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:05.89).  Lacca had a third place in the 100 yard freestyle (50.09).      

The Montclair State women’s 200 yard medley came in second (1:59.06) with Ashley Vallone (fr. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge), Laura Spadoni (jr. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area), Laura Flynn (sr. Andover, NJ/Lenape Valley) and Christina Crossin (so. Milford, CT/Lauralton Hall).  The women’s 400 yard freestyle relay took second place (3:55.90).  The free relay team consisted of Galina Loutchouk (jr. Richboro, PA/Council Rock), Kelly Abner (so. Glenwood, NJ/Vernon), Allie Golden (so. Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) and Alice Sroga (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah).

Vallone was the winner in the 100 yard freestyle (56.14).  She had second places in the 50 (25.87) and 200 yard (2:05.11) freestyles.  Spadoni took second in the 100 (1:11.26) yard breaststroke (2:34.83).  She also had a third place in the 200 individual medley (2:22.34).  In the 1000 yard freestyle, Jessica Patalano (sr. Edison, NJ/Bishop Ahr) and Sroga finished second (11:54.37) and third (11:58.51) respectively.  Loutchouk came in second in the 100 (1:05.61) and 200 yard (2:20.32) butterflies and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:36.02).  Abner was second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:20.39) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:20.34).  Golden had a second place in the 500 freestyle (5:47.13).       

In the diving events, Jaclyn Beck (West Milford, NJ / West Milford) and Anthony Cacella (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) both finished second in the one and three-meter events. Beck posted a score of 214.20 in the one-meter event and 186.75 in the three-meter while Cacella registered scores of 104.50 and 141.15 in the one and three, respectively.

The Red Hawk men return to action on Tuesday, January 26 as the men face Vassar College at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool beginning at 6:00 pm. The entire squad is back together on Saturday, February 6 as MSU takes on local rival William Paterson at home in a 1:00 pm conference meet.
