Newark, DE (1/30/10) – The
Montclair State men’s indoor track and field team placed seventh among
the grouping of Division II and Division III squads as the Red Hawks
competed at the Thomson Invitational at the University of Delaware on
Saturday.
Senior Eugene Asimou (Livingston, NJ / Livingston)
finished second in the shot put as he put up an NCAA provisional mark
of 16.18 meters (53-feet, 1-inch). It is the third straight meet that
Asimou has recorded a NCAA mark. Last week he automatically qualified
for the NCAA Championships with a school-record toss of 16.81 meters. Mario Morrison-Bird (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) finished second as he registered a throw of 14.41 meters (47-feet, 3.5 inches).
Asimou would also add a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 14.53 meters (47-feet, 8-inches).
Junior Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra) and Adenford Jean-Philippe (Irvington, NJ / Irvington) finished second and fourth respectively in the 60 meter hurdles with times oft 8.33 and 8.62. Senior Terry Iavarone (North Arlington, NJ / North Arlington) was third in the 800 meters (2:02.09) with Tim Duwhite, Jr. (Passaic, NJ / Passaic) placing fifth with a time of 2:07.35.
Terea Hargrove (Springfield, NJ / Jonathan Dayton Regional) was ninth in the triple jumpe (12.30 meters / 40-7.5) and 12th in the long jump (6.03 meters – 19-9.5). Ricardo Thomas (Pennsauken, NJ / Pennsauken) finished 12th in the 60 meters posting a time of 7.30 seconds.
MSU returns to action on Friday and Saturday, February 5-6. The Red
Hawks will be at The Armory on Friday competing in the New Balance
Invitational before heading to East Stroudsburg University and the
DeSchriver Invitational on Sunday.
