Patterson, Tumson Key Women's Indoor Track Performances at CTC Championships

Middletown, CT (2/13/10) – Freshman Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ / Northern Burlington) posted ECAC qualifying mark in three different events as the Montclair State women’s indoor track and field team placed 11th at the Collegiate Track Coaches Championships held at Wesleyan University on Saturday.

Junior Judline Tumson (Newark, NJ / Arts) equaled her season-best and ECAC qualifying time in the 55 meters as the Red Hawks finished with 28 points.

Patterson placed herself in the field for next month’s ECAC Championships in the 55 hurdles as she surpassed the qualifying standard of 9.04 seconds while finishing third in the event. Patterson registered a time of 8.88 seconds in during the preliminaries and then bested that mark in the finals as she ran 8.81 seconds. Katherine Tallaj (Paramus, NJ / Immaculate Heart) was 11th in the event as she recorded a season-best time of 9.31 seconds.

Patterson added a second qualifying mark as she and Tumson placed seventh and eighth respectively in the 200 meters. Patterson clocked in at 26.88 seconds, .01 better than the qualifying mark for the ECAC meet. Tumson narrowly missed the cut as she ran 26.99 seconds.

The two would be instrumental in helping the 4x200 relay squad to a seventh-place finish and another ECAC qualifying time as the quartet put forth a time of 1:50.24. Ashley Powell (Orange, NJ / Marylawn of the Oranges) and Leah McClish (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge) were also part of the team.

Patterson would complete her day as she teamed with McClish, Nicole Galipo (Clarksburg, NJ / Allentown) and Farida Jawando (Colts Neck, NJ / Monmouth Regional) for the best time by an MSU team in the 4x400 this season. The group ran 4:17.04 to place sixth in the field.

Tumson matched her season-best time in the 55 meters as she placed fifth in the event. She ran 7.48 seconds during the prelims which duplicated her ECAC qualifying mark achieved last week at the DeSchriver Invitational. Tumson would run a time of 7.50 in the finals.

Jawando had the best individual finish by a Red Hawk as she was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.72. Nicole Presti (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) finished seventh and 15th respectively, in the 1000 meters (3:41.03) and mile (6:10.55) while McClish was 15th in the 400 meters (1:05.92).
