New York, NY (2/27/10) – Junior Kelly Abner (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon)
set a new school record in the 200 backstoke as the Montclair State
men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their 2009-2010
campaigh at the New York University Last Chance Invitational on
Saturday.
Abner finished second in the event as she
clocked in at 2:14.10, breaking the previous mark of 2:14.81 set by
Elissa Kaplan at the ECAC Championships in 1998.
Freshman Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) finished first in two events as she posted times ofr 25.60 in the 50 freestyle and 55.34 in the 100 freestyle. Christina Crossin (Milford, CT / Lauralton Hall) was third in the 50 freestyle (26.51) and swam 57.63 in the 100 freestyle.
Junior Laura Spadoni (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area),
looking for NCAA Division III qyalifying time in the 100 breaststroke,
finished first in the event as she swam 1:07.97. However, the time was
just four-tenths of a second off the "B" cut standard. Maria Vira (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne) was fourth with a time of 1:12.61.
On the men's side, junior Blaise Lacca (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) was second in the 50 freestyle (22.31) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (55.06).
