Spadoni Headlines Swimming and Diving's All-NJAC Selections

Montclair, NJ (3/3/10) – Junior Laura Spadoni (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area) earned Second-Team honors in two individual events and was part of a third in a relay event as she headlined Montclair State's selections to the 2010 New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Conference squad announced on Wednesday.

The league all-conference selections are based on performances at the Metropolitan Conference Championships held at Rutgers University on February 19-21. The Montclair State men placed fifth at the championships while the women finished in seventh palce.

Spadoni collected her second straight All-Conference selection as she was tabbed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. She finished third in the 100 breaststroke at the Mets posting an NCAA Division III "B" cut time of 1:06.25. Spadoni placed fourth in the 200 backstroke clocking in at 2:27.32.

Spadoni was the second leg of the 200 medley realy team that also claimed Second-Team accolades. Spadoni, Kelly Abner (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon), Lauren Uckar (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) and Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) placed sixth at the Metropolitan Championships to earn the All-Conference selection.

On the men's side, the Red Hawks had two relay teams named Second-Team All-Conference. The 400 freestyle relay quartet of Michael Smith (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill West), Thomas Long (Morristown, NJ / Morristown), Zak Westerberg (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) and Blaise Lacca (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) earned a spot as they set a new MSU record in the event timing in at 3:11.09 which placed them fifth at the Metropolitan Championships.

Long, Westerberg and Lacca them combined with Nikolas Lumkong (Andover, NJ / Pope John XXIII) to earn All-NJAC honors in the 200 freestyle relay as they too set a new Montclair State record with a time of 1:26.02 taking third in the event at the championship meet.
