Susan Somers-Willett, assistant professor of English, has just been announced as a 2010 winner of a Gracie Award for her collaborative documentary-poetry-video project, In Verse: Women of Troy, which aired on public radio’s “Studio 360” in November, 2009. Her achievement was in the category of Outstanding Soft News Feature for Local, Public, and Student award winners.
A national award, the “Gracies” are handed out annually by the Foundation of American Women of Radio and Television (AWRT). For more than three decades, the AWRT has been a leader in celebrating and honoring programming created for women, by women, and about women, as well as individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the industry. The Gracies strive to encourage the realistic and faceted portrayal of women in entertainment, commercials, news, features and other programs.
The award gala will be held in May at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
