Mahwah, NJ (3/27/10) - Senior Lauren Adams (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) started the run with a goal while Morgan MacPhee (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) and Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) each
tallied twice as Montclair State scored the final five goals for a
14-11 Skyline and New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Ramapo on
Saturday afternoon.
MacPhee finished with three goals while Adams, Delfini, Kailee Beal (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) and Meghan Spitzer (Mount Olive, NJ / Mount Olive)
each scored twice as the Red Hawks won their third straight and moved
over the .500 mark at 4-3. MSU also remained unbeaten in both the
Skyline (3-0) and NJAC (2-0).
The Red Hawks scored the first two goals of the game before Ramapo took
a 3-2 lead with three straight goals. Sophomore Christina Cigolini
(Ridgewood, NJ) scored on a free position shot before juniorJenna
Pfarr(Cranford, NJ) hi the back of the net to tie the game at two.
Cigolini then put the Roadrunners ahead, 3-2 with an unassisted goal.
MSU scored one goal to tie the game before MacPhee tallied her first
goal of the game and her 100th goal of her career off a pass from
Adams, 4-3. Ramapo tied the game at four when Cigolini scored an
unassisted goal with under ten minutes to play. MSU went up 6-4 before
Ramapo came back and tied the game before the half was over. Rookie
Adrianna Tepedino (Freehold, NJ) scored her first goal of the game
before sophomore Amanda Barretta (Roseland, NJ) tied the game in the
final seconds of the half on a free position shot, 6-6.
Tepedino scored the first goal of he second half to take a 7-6 before
MSU score two unassisted goals to go ahead, 8-7. Tepedino scored on a
free position shot to tie the game at eight before Jamie Hudacko put
one in the back of the net for MSU, 9-8. Cigolini tied the game at nine
with a free position shot before Barretta scored back to back goals to
go up 11-9.
MSU scored their tenth goal of the game before sophomore Delfini ripped
a shot past the Ramapo goalie on a pass from Beal to tie the game at 11
before MacPhee put the game away for MSU with back to back goals,
13-11. Delfini scored the game’s final goal on a free position shot,
14-11.
MSU held a 35-22 advantage in shots in the game while Ramapo collected 11 ground balls to MSU’s eight.
Freshman goalkeeper Tiffani Henderson (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) made four saves in the first half before Tracy Manella (Haworth, NJ / NV-Demarest) came on to recorded the win stopping one shot in the final 30 minutes.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Thursday, April 1 as they head to Pennsylvania to face Scranton at 7:00 pm.
