PATTERSON KEYS RED HAWKS TO THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT ROADRUNNER INVITATIONAL
Mahwah, NJ (4/3/10) – Freshman Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ / Northern Burlington) posted a pair of ECAC qualifying performances and registered three Top 3 finishes as the Montclair State women’s outdoor track and field team placed third at the Roadrunner Invitational held at Ramapo College on Saturday.
Junior Farida Jawando (Colts Neck, NJ / Monmouth Regional) and Jackie Philbin (Lincoln Park, NJ / Boonton)
had first-place showings in the 800 meters and javelin, respectively as
MSU totaled 77.50 points in the meet. MSU finished behind host Ramapo
and Ithaca College, but did place ahead of fellow NJAC rivals New
Jersey City, Rutgers-Newark and Kean.
Patterson won
the 400 hurdles as she posted an ECAC mark of 1:04.94. She nearly made
it a sweep of the hurdle events finishing second in the 100 hurdles
with another ECAC time of 15.54 seconds. Patterson capped her day by
running the leadoff leg of the 4x400 relay team that came within .18
seconds of another ECAC qualifying time as the quartet placed third at
4:10.18. She was joined on that relay by Leah McClish (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge), Nicole Galipo (Clarksburg, NJ / Allentown) and Jawando.
Jawando ran 2:21.63 to win the 800 meters with Philbin tossing a best
35.75 meters to take the discus event. Philbin then placed eighth in
the javelin at 32.80 meters.
Ashley Powell (Orange, NJ / Marylawn of the Oranges) finished sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.23 while Jennifer Murphy (Maple Shade, NJ / Maple Shade) ran 14.80 to placed 16th. Powell was also fifth in the 200 meters (27.29)
Nicole Presti (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) placed fourth (5:28.54) in the 1500 meters leading three Red Hawks in the Top 8. Kristen Larsen (Bloomfield, NJ / Bloomfield) and Kasia Gawryluk were sixth (5:35.17) and eighth (5:37.40), respectively.
In the field events, Evelyn Sha (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) finished third in the triple jump as she leaped 9.87 meters. Sara Douma (West Milford, NJ / West Milford) was eighth (9.73 meters) followed by Katherine Tallaj (Paramus, NJ / Immaculate Heart),
who was ninth at 9.69 meters. Galipo posted a seventh-place showing in
the high jump at 1.48 meters with Sha placing 10th (1.43 meters).
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 10 as they head to
Ichan Stadium on Randall’s Island for the New York Relays.
