Women's Lacrosse Takes Skyline Regular-Season Championship

Montclair, NJ (4/22/10) – Junior Kayla Henderson (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) scored four times leading six players with multiple-goals as Montclair State wrapped up the Skyline Conference regular season championship for the fourth time in five seasons with an 18-1 victory over Mount St. Mary College at Sprague Field on Thursday evening.

Senior Lauren Adams (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) had two goals and four assists as the Red Hawks (9-4) also wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament which begins on Tuesday, April 27. MSU, now 7-0 in league, will receive a first-round bye and host a semifinal contest at Sprague Field on Thursday, April 29 against an opponent to be determined.

Freshman midfielder Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, NY / Putnam Valley) had the lone goal for the Blue Knights, who fell to 4-8 overall, 2-4 in the Skyline.

Montclair State collected the first six goals of the game as the Red Hawks found the back of the net with 27:33 left as Jessica Curran (Yorktown Heights, NY / Lakeland) scored unassisted with Maggie Fallon (Cherry Hill, NJ / Camden Catholic) following with a goal of her own 33 seconds later. Morgan MacPhee (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) scored off a Curran assist with 26:03 to play and MSU added three more in 20 second intervals with Adams assisting on all three tallies.

Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) scored with 25:38 left and Kailee Beal (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) netted one with 25:18 on the clock. Henderson capped the rally 20 seconds later as Montclair State led 6-0.

Cranwell stopped the run for the Blue Knights as she scored unassisted a minute later, however Henderson registered three more times before the half as Montclair State led 13-1.

MacPhee finished with three goals and an assist while Beal, Fallon and Delfini each scored twice. Beal also added an assist and four draws with Curran and MacPhee getting three apiece as the Red Hawks won 17-of-21 draws contested. Goalkeeper Tracy Manella (Haworth, NJ / NV-Demarest) made three saves.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Folino (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph by the Sea) made seven saves for Mount St. Mary.

Montclair State closes out its regular season on Saturday as they travel to Albany, NY to face The Sage Colleges at 11:00 am. Mount St. Mary concludes its schedule on Sunday, April 25 as they host SUNY-Maritime at 1:00 pm.
