Women's Soccer Selected Sixth in NJAC Preseason Poll

Montclair, NJ (8/17/10) – The Montclair State women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth as the New Jersey Athletic Conference unveiled its 2010 Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday.

Led by new first-year head coach Pat Naughter, the 2009 Red Hawks finished 9-6-2 overall and finished sixth in the NJAC regular season with a 3-4-2 conference mark. Montclair State fell to William Paterson 2-0 in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament.

MSU returns a pair of 2009 NJAC all-conference players in senior midfielder Jackie McGrath (Vernon, NJ / Vernon) and senior back Stefanie Elefther (Rivervale, NJ / Pascack Valley). McGrath finished second on the team in goals and points last season as she found the back of the net seven times, including two game-winning tallies. Elefther helped key a Montclair defensive unit that surrendered just 17 goals.

The Red Hawks open up their 2010 season on Wednesday, September 1 as they host St. John Fisher as MSU Soccer Park in a 2:00 pm contest. Montclair opens up NJAC play on Saturday, September 18 as it travels to Rowan University.
