Library Service Interruptions On Monday, December 29, 2003

The on-line catalog system (SIRSI) servicing the Sprague Library was out of service from 11:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m. today (Dec. 29, 2003) due to an overheating situation in the Network Operations Center in College Hall. The main cooling systems to College Hall were turned off to accommodate an electrical upgrade. In combination, our reliance on secondary cooling systems for a long duration of time and the unseasonably warm weather today caused the temperature in the Network Operations Center to reach a point where our connection to the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS), which supports the SIRSI On-Line Catalog system, failed.

In a separate matter, the Library Web Server was relocated to a new sub-net as part of the University's overall network replacement project. The move required reconfiguration of several routing tables and IP addresses in order to maintain access to the University's online databases and these alterations took much longer than anticipated.

All services were restored as of 2:30 p.m. today.
