Montclair, NJ (9/13/10) - Senior football running back Chris D'Andrea (Union, NJ / Union) and senior field hockey forward Deana Hagel (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) have been named the inaugural MSU Athletes of the Week.
D’Andrea helped the Red Hawks to a 34-0 victory over Westfield State in the season opener. He accounted for 239 all-purpose yards, including a career-best 174 yards rushing on just 16 carries and two touchdowns - a 42-yard run and a 45-yard catch. Named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, D’Andrea, who averaged 10.9 yards per carry in the victory, currently leads the NJAC in all-purpose yards per game (239.0) and is second in rushing yards per game (174.0) and scoring (12 points).
Hagel helped the Red Hawks to their third straight victory last Saturday as Montclair State knocked off Muhlenberg College to improve to 3-1. Hagel gave MSU a 2-0 lead midway through the second half with her third goal of the season and then after Muhlenberg pulled within 2-1, she assisted on an insurance marker with 1:33 left. Hagel moved into sole possession of seventh place on the all-time MSU list for goals with her 31st and she is currently 10th all-time in points scored with 70. She is currently ranked third in the NJAC in both goals (4) and points (11).
