Scoppa Named NJAC Football Offensive Rookie of the Week

Montclair, NJ (9/18/10) – Freshman running back A.J. Scoppa (New Milford, NJ / New Milford) was selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Offensive Rookie of the Week on Sunday. It is the second straight week that Montclair garnered a weekly accolade from the league as Chris D'Andrea (Union, NJ / Union) was chosen Offensive Player of the Week on September 12.

Scoppa earns NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Red Hawks’ secure a 26-7 win over NJAC rival Rowan in MSU’s conference-opener. Despite not entering the game until the fourth quarter, he carried 14 times for 73 yards, including a two-yard touchdown run resulting in his second collegiate score in only his second game played.

Scoppa, who averaged 5.2 yards per carry in the victory, has garnered 114 yards rushing on only 17 carries during his first two games as a Red Hawk.
