The George Segal Gallery is proud to present a retrospective exhibition of the works of artist Will Barnet, on view September 21 – December 11, 2010 at the gallery on the Montclair State University campus. Entitled “Will Barnet,” the exhibition will showcase Barnet’s figurative works—including prints, oil paintings, and drawings—created over a span of eight decades.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Information about the hours of operation and directions to the Segal Gallery are available at its Web site.

Barnet, who will celebrate his 100th birthday in 2011, was a visiting art professor at Montclair State from 1940-1945, and his son, Peter Barnet, has been a professor of art at the University for 40 years. A collaborative project between Montclair State and the Montclair Art Museum, the exhibition is curated by Montclair State University Professors Peter Barnet and Anne Betty Weinshenker, Montclair Art Museum Chief Curator Gail Stavitsky, and George Segal Gallery Director Teresa Rodriguez.

In addition to the ongoing exhibition, a symposium entitled, “Reviewing Will Barnet,” will be held on Thursday, October 7, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in the Brantl Lecture Room in Dickinson Hall on the Montclair State campus. The exhibition’s four curators will be the panelists and each will present his or her views of Will Barnet’s legacy in the realm of fine art.

The symposium is open to the public and those interested in attending may register by calling the gallery’s education coordinator at 973-655-6941 or 973-655-3382. The registration fee is $25.00 per person, with a 20% discount offered to older adults with ID. Montclair State students with ID may register free of charge.

For more information, please contact the Segal Gallery’s education coordinator at 973-655-6941 or 973-655-3382.
