Murphy Selected NJAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

Montclair, NJ (9/27/10) – Senior Jessica Murphy (West Long Branch, NJ / Shore Regional) was honored by the New Jersey Athletic Conference on Monday as she was chosen as the league's Defensive Player of the Week

Murphy becomes the second consecutive Red Hawk to earn NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Red Hawks extend their winning-streak to six games with a 2-1 overtime road win at No. 11 Trinity (CT). She anchored a MSU defense the helped limit the host Bantams to just 10 shots on goal. She also contributed offensively by tying the game with her first goal of the season, before netting the game-winning score four minutes into the overtime period.

Murphy is part of a MSU defense that currently ranks third in the NJAC in fewest goals allowed (10).
