Volleyball Closes Out Appearance in Ducks Invitational

Hoboken, NJ (10/2/10) – The Montclair State volleyball team closed out action at the Ducks Invitational on Saturday with a pair of losses as the Red Hawks dropped a three-set match with MIT before falling to Baruch College, 3-1.

Freshman Marta Topor (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) had 12 kills, six service aces and 16 digs as MSU fell to 2-21 on the year. Montclair lost to MIT by scores of 25-9, 25-23 and 25-19. The Red Hawks captured the first set versus Baruch, 25-18 but dropped the next three 25-20, 25-22, 25-21.

Topor had a pair of kills along with four aces and four digs in the loss to MIT. Alyssa Batiste (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) added two kills, four assists and four digs while Bella Milstein (Edison, NJ / JP Stevens) registered four assists. Freshman libero Kaitlyn Irwin (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) posted a team-best 14 digs.

Topor completed her day with 10 kills and 12 digs along with a pair of service aces and blocks against Baruch. Megan Cockcroft (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) had eight kills and nine digs with Batiste chipping in with seven kills, 17 assists and 12 digs in addition to two blocks. Irwin posted 29 digs and Allie Boettinger (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) added 14 assists and two kills.

Montclair State returns to action on Thursday, October 7 as the Red Hawks host Rutgers-Newark at the Panzer Athletic Center (7:00 pm) to kickoff Homecoming Weekend.
