Frank Cordelle's "Century Project"
Wellness Services will be sponsoring a week long celebration and exploration of the human body as we celebrate Body Acceptance Week (February 23-27, 2004). "We Sing the Body Eclectic" will present a series of intriguing discussions, films, interviews, and a fashion show, all housed within the exhibit entitled "The Century Project," a photographic celebration of women and their bodies. The Century Project exhibits a chronological series of nude portraits of females from birth through 100 years of age with personal statements written by many of the subjects about their difficult life experiences including physical abuse, eating disorders, disabilities, etc. The exhibit is extraordinary because it is about the images of real women whose bodies, though sometimes distorted by their personal experiences, are still a source of pride to them. The primary goal of The CENTURY Project is to provide a healthy alternative to the way women are represented in the media.
Many of the other elements of the programming focus on body acceptance and eating disorder issues of both men and women. In its entirety, this series of events celebrates body types of both males and females, with a focus on issues of self-esteem and pride in ones natural self.
We hope to see all of you there celebrating our bodies, ourselves!
