Montclair, NJ (10/12/10) – Freshman libero Kaitlin Irwin (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) added another honor to her 2010 campaign on Tuesday as she was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Irwin had earned two NJAC Rookie of the Week honors on September 14 and 28.
Irwin helped Montclair State snap a nine-game losing streak as the Red Hawks downed Rutgers-Newark, 3-0 in their only match of the week. Irwin posted a match-high 19 digs and four service aces leading an MSU comeback in the first set. She served eight straight points as MSU turned a 21-12 deficit into a 25-23 triumph in the set as Montclair State would go on to the three-set win.
Irwin currently leads the NJAC in digs per game at 5.79 and is also ranked in the Top 20 in the NJAC in service aces with a team-best 30.
