Box Score

Montclair, NJ (10/13/10) – Sophomore forward Teghan Pecherski (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) scored the lone goal for Kean while freshman forward Alyssa Diacheysn (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) netted a goal for Montclair State as the Cougars and Red Hawks played to a 1-1 draw in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

Each team collected a point in the conference standings as Kean moved to 8-2-4 on the year, 2-1-3 in the NJAC while Montclair State, playing its first contest in 11 days, remained at the .500 mark. The Red Hawks are now 5-5-3 overall, 2-3-1 in the league.

Pecherski gave Kean a 1-0 lead 1:12 before halftime as she collected her second goal of the season. MSU attempted to clear the ball out, however it managed to stay back in and moved toward the goal. Pecherski was able to get a step on a defender and fired a shot from 10 yards out on the right side into the middle portion of the net as the Cougars took the one-goal advantage into the break.

Montclair State would get the equalizer 4:25 into the second half as Diacheysn got her second tally of the year. The Red Hawks moved the ball into the box toward the left side. Rachel Senyszyn (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) was able to flick the ball over to the Diacheysn, who fired a shot inside the far right post knotting the game at 1-1.
Kean came within inches of retaking the lead 41 seconds later. With MSU goalkeeper Marisa Zayac (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) off her line, Kristen Hager (Spotswood, NJ / Spotswood) had a wide open net. Hager got off a solid shot that looked as if it would go in, but Red Hawk defender Katie Hazzard (Clementon, NJ / Highland Regional)deflected the ball away on the goal line.

The Red Hawks then got a break as a red card against the Cougars gave MSU a man-advantage for the remainder of the half. However, Montclair was unable to take advantage as the game headed into overtime.
In the first overtime, Danielle Esposito (Holmdel, NJ / Holmdel) appeared to win the game for Kean in the first 82 seconds as she beat several defenders for a loose ball and blistered a shot into the upper right corner. However the goal was waved off for offsides. Montclair would get one shot in the OT, but Leandra Russo (Galloway, NJ / Absegami) scooped up Allison Wacker’s (Stockholm, NJ / Wallkill Valley) shot

The second overtime would provide most of the excitement in the match. Senyszyn got a golden opportunity to win the game for MSU 1:53 into the period as she outmuscled a defender for a loose ball in the box. Senyszyn would get off a shot from 12 yards out, but Russo made an outstretched stop. The ball trickled toward the goal where defender Marie Silva (Kearny, NJ / Kearny) was able to knock it out for a corner kick. Montclair nearly capitalized on that as Casey Shuckers (Lincoln Park, NJ / Morris Catholic) served a ball inside the six yardline where it found Katie Minervini(Oceanport, NJ / Shore Regional). Minervini flicked the ball on the header, but Russo again came up big snaring the shot out of the air.

Esposito got the final opportunity with 2:29 to play, collecting a ball along the right side. Her shot would get past Zayac however the ball would go just wide.

Russo finished with three saves while Zayac stopped five for Montclair. Kean held the edge in shots 13-12 with Montclair getting six corner kicks to the Cougars three.

Both teams are back in action with road NJAC contests. Montclair State is in Jersey City, NJ to face New Jersey City University in a 1:00 pm matchup. Kean is down in Ewing, NJ to face third-ranked The College of New Jersey at 7:00 pm.
