A high voltage power line has failed and caused an interruption of service to Sprague Library, both the main and first level of Memorial Auditorium, all of Life Hall including the dance studio and broadcasting facilities, and the annex housing the Broadcasting offices.
Our investigation has determined that the cable must be replaced, a process that will take six to eight hours.
Repairs are now underway, but they will not be completed in time for these facilities to be used at any point for the remainder of the day or evening.
Thus, effective immediately, 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, all classes and other activities in the facilities identified above will be cancelled for the remainder of the day and evening. Additionally, effective immediately, access to the above identified facilities will be denied until power is restored.
Fox Theatre and the area occupied by Communication Sciences and Disorders still have power and will remain open for normal operation.
At this time I anticipate that these facilities will gain power overnight and will be open for normal operation tomorrow morning, Wednesday, March 10, 2004. If this is not the case the campus will be notified early tomorrow morning.
