Montclair, NJ (12/20/10) - Junior basketball standouts Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan)and Jaime Ericson (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) were named MSU Athletes of the Week for December 20.
Ericson is named for the second straight week and third time this season after averaging a double-double with 17.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in a pair of contests. Ericson recorded a game-high 17 points along with 11 rebounds as Montclair State fell to New Paltz on the road. In that game, Ericson connected five times from behind the three-point line. She wrapped up her week with another double-double scoring 10 points and adding 11 rebounds as the Red Hawks fell to 14th-ranked Muhlenberg at home. Ericson also posted three assists and three steals in the two games.
August, who was chosen for the second time this year, helped Montclair State extend its winning streak to 10 games, its longest since a 12-game run in the 2002-03 campaign. August had 15 points and six rebounds along with two assists and two steals in 36 minutes of action in a 67-42 win over Vaughn College at home. He then became the first Red Hawk to top 30 points in a game in five years finishing with 31 and 11 rebounds for a double-double while also handing out five assists and adding two steals as MSU put forth the third-highest scoring game in school history with a 118-105 win over Mt. Aloysius at the Harold J. Brodie Tournament at Rochester Tech. August capped of his week with 20 points and six rebounds as MSU won the tournament with a 66-63 win over host RIT. August was named the Most Valuable Player.
