All writers need readers, and our new Center for Writing Excellence is here to help. We officially launched the CWE just a year ago, on the first floor of Sprague Library. Our services are available to all members of the Montclair State University community who are committed to developing and improving as writers. The CWE is open whenever the university is open, including weekends. One-on-one, twenty-five minute sessions with our experienced writing consultants are designed to help you with every aspect of the writing process, including—
- Getting started: Understanding the writing task and generating ideas
- Drafting: Developing a focus and an argument, selecting appropriate evidence, and organizing your ideas
- Revising: Choosing strategies to improve drafts
- Polishing: Learning to edit your own writing
We can work with any and all kinds of writing such as coursework essays, résumés, and application essays. Note that we do not proofread and edit your work for you, but we can help you learn how to do so. To learn more about us or to schedule an appointment, go to www.montclair.edu/cwe. Now, starting in January, we are offering sessions online. That means you don’t need to visit the CWE in person, but you can instead set up a virtual chat to talk about your writing.
Our website also has a large number of online resources in all fields. Check out our Digital Dashboard for Writers, where you can learn more about the writing process, conducting research, citing sources, technology and writing, using email effectively, specific types and genres of writing, second-language writing, and help with grammar and style. For teachers we also have resources on designing writing assignments, evaluation, peer review, teaching with technology, academic integrity, and working with speakers of English as a second language. To learn more, please visit: http://www.montclair.edu/cwe/dashboard-home/index.html
CWE consultants include graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, and alumni of Montclair State. While they can work with all writers, they also have their own specialties, such as creative writing, professional communication, second-language writing, or education. Read their bios to learn more about them: http://www.montclair.edu/cwe/aboutus/bios.html
We are on the first floor of Sprague Library, beyond the Reference area. Our “Greeters” will be happy to assist you in making an appointment, and our Program Assistant, Alicia Remolde, can provide more information on how we can help you.
Alumni

University Alumni ID card. If you do not have an Alumni ID card, contact the
