Prewitt, Jeffers Named MSU Athletes of the Week for January 10

Montclair, NJ (1/10/11) - Basketball standouts Tyrone Prewitt (Trenton, NJ / Trenton) and Taylor Jeffers(Franklin Township, NJ / Franklin) were named MSU Athletes of the Week for January 10.

Jeffers helped the Red Hawks to a split of four games to start the new year as averaging 10.0 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field and adding six steals. Jeffers was named to the All-Tournament Team in the Key Largo Classic as the Red Hawks won the championship with a pair of wins over Gordon College and Simmons College. Jefferson had 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench in the win against Simmons. She aso added 11 points and four rebounds in a four-point loss to Ramapo and collected nine points and seven boards versus No. 8 Kean University.

Prewitt provided a spark off the bench averaging 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Red Hawks as Montclair State split a pair of games to open the 2011 portion of its schedule. He had nine rebounds and a blocked shot versus Eastern University in the opening round of the PNC Bank Classic at Scranton on January 2 and registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Red Hawks downed Cazenovia in the third-place game. He closed out his week with 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals as MSU fell at Kean University.
