Montclair, NJ (1/21/11) – Senior Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra)
came within a blink of an eye of automatically qualifying for the NCAA
Championships at the Great Dane Classic to highlight the men’s indoor
track and field team’s results this past weekend.
Sophomore Niyi Adenugba (North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) finished second in the high jump as the Red Hawks also took part in the Collegeville Indoor Classic at Ursinus College.
Last week, Brown posted a provisional mark for next month’s national
championship meet running a time of 8.34 in the finals of the Gotham
Cup at The Armory. This week Brown returned to the same place and came
within .01 of automatically qualifying for the NCAAs as he ran 8.14 in
the finals of the 60 meter hurdles finishing third in his finals heat.
Brown's time, when converted to the 55 meter hurdles was 7.56, just
missed out on earning an automatic berth for the NCAA Championships
which will be held on March 11-12 at Capital University in Bexley,
Ohio. Brown won the NCAA title in the 55 meters in 2009 and was second
last season.
Adenugba placed second in the high jump as he leaped 1.88 meters (6-feet, 2-inches). He also finished eighth in the 55 meter hurdles evetn with a time of 8.49 seconds.
Terea Hargrove (Springfield, NJ / Jonathan Dayton Regional) placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.38 meters (20-feet, 11.75 inches) while senior Mario Morrison-Bird (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) had the same placing in the shot put at 14.11 meters (46-feet, 3.5-inches).
The Red Hawks are now off until February 4-5 when they compete in the New Balance and DeSchriver Invitational meets at The Armory and East Stroudsburg University, respectively.
