Planning is well underway at Montclair State University for the 2011 Montclair State University Foundation Annual Dinner, which will be held Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the University Hall Conference Center. With the theme, “Our Students are Your Business,” this year’s event will focus on the exciting developments taking place in the University’s School of Business.
“Our Students are Your Business” is a theme that speaks to the core of the School of Business’ mission and the commitment to provide students with the facilities and resources they need to lead in today’s changing and challenging business world. Proceeds from the dinner will support these goals.
The Annual Dinner is also the occasion for the presentation of the Carpe Diem Award, presented annually to a distinguished alumni or friend of the University for outstanding professional and personal achievements. The honoree for 2011 is Douglas L. Kennedy, State President, New Jersey for Capital One Bank. Kennedy is not only one of the state’s most successful banking executives, but has been a member of Montclair State University’s Board of Trustees for more than a decade, and currently serves as its chair.
In addition to his service on the Board of Trustees, Kennedy was co-chair of the University’s Capital Campaign. He is also a member of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce, and the New Jersey Banker’s Board of Directors. He is president of the nonprofit organization, New Jersey After 3, and an active trustee of the Tri-County Scholarship Fund.
The Annual Dinner Committee co-chairs are John Schmidt, first vice president with Merrill Lynch and chair of the University's Foundation Board, and Susan Blount, senior vice president and general counsel with Prudential Financial, Inc., and a member of the University’s Board of Trustees.
