Red Hawks Unveil New Sign in Memory of Douglas Greulich

On January 29 during halftime of the Red Hawks' women's basketball contest with Richard Stockton, the Montclair State Department of Athletics made a special dedication with the unveiling of a new sign in the memory of Douglas Greulich in the Panzer Athletic Center.

Douglas Greulich was a junior Physical Education major at Montclair State when he passed away suddenly on February 25, 1980. Shortly after his passing, his classmates donated a plaque in his memory that hung beneath the main scoreboard in the Panzer Gymnasium. That sign was displayed for nearly a quarter century until the renovation of Panzer in 2008.

Greulich was a member of the Montclair State men’s soccer and lacrosse teams and was a captain of the MSC Cheerleading Squad. In addition he was the treasurer of the Delta Chapter of Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity.

He was a lifelong resident of Montclair who was also active in several church activities, including a member of the senior choir and the coach of the church’s basketball team.

Several members of the Greulich family were on hand for the unveiling and the family was presented with the original sign.
