Sophomore Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) was named the Outstanding Female Track Athlete while freshman Krystal Ellis (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) was chosen Co-Rookie of the Year as the NJAC released its 2011 Indoor All-Conference Team on Thursday.
The team of Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford), freshman Krystal Ellis (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) , Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ / Northern Burlington) and Michelle McNulty (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne)
broke the 19-year-old indoor school record in the event and also posted
an NCAA Provisional qualifying time. Patterson, Gearity, Ellis and
McNulty finished sixth in the field of 15 teams that included Division
I, II and III schools.
The quartet registered a time of 3:55.46 breaking the mark of
3:55.96 set by Montclair State during the 1992 NCAA Division III
Championships. Montclair’s time in the event is currently ranked in the
Top 10 in nation this season. The group, which won the NJAC title in the
event last week, is in line for a trip to the NCAA Division III
Championships which will be held in Bexley, Ohio on March 11-12.
Ellis and Gearity also competed in the 60 meter hurdles. Ellis placed 16th overall as she ran a time of 9.39 seconds while Gearity clocked in at 9.79 to finish 23rd overall.
