Montclair, NJ (2/28/11) – Freshman midfielder Trevor Teel (Oakland, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) earned the first award of the season for the Montclair State men's lacrosse team as he was chosen the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Senior midfielder Robert Sinicola (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) was named to the Honor Roll.
Both players played a key role in helping Montclair State to a 9-5 season-opening victory over Muhlenberg College on Saturday.
Teel scored twice and added an assist in his collegiate debut. He had a hand in the first two Red Hawk scores – a man-up goal to open the game and an assist on the next goal 62 seconds later. Teel collected his second score with 4:18 to go in the first half staking Montclair State to a 4-2 halftime lead.
Sinicola, the Skyline Tournament MVP in 2010 and All-American, picked up where he left off last year notching a goal and four assists. He assisted on MSU’s first goal of the game and the picked up an important helper on MSU’s sixth in the third quarter as the Red Hawks went up 6-4. After Muhlnebrg got back to 6-5 in the fourth, Sinicola scored his lone goal with seven minutes left and then assisted on the next goal for an 8-5 lead en route to the win.
