Men's Lacrosse Topped by No. 4 Cortland

Montclair, NJ (3/8/11) – Freshman attack Mark Panneton (Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) scored six goals  while Chris DeLuca (Sayville, NY / Sayville) and Mike Tota (Webster, NY / Webester Schroeder) each tallied twice as fourth-ranked Cortland rolled to its third straight victory with a 14-4 triumph over Montclair State at Sprague Field on Tuesday afternoon. 

Jay DiStefano (Huntington, NY / Harborfields) and Greg Wright (Irondequoit, NY / Irondequoit) each added a goal and two assists as the Red Dragons improved to 3-0 with the win. Cortland has outscored its opponents 39-7 in its first three contests.

Freshman Anthony Rybek (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge) collected a goal and assist for Montclair State, which fell to 1-2 with a second straight loss to a Top 20 opponent. The Red Hawks lost to No. 16 Dickinson on Saturday. 
Panneton and Tota scored 14 second part midway through the first period as the Red Dragons held a 2-0 advantage after one quarter. 

Rybek would cut that deficit in half with a goal 3:17 into the second period making the score 2-1. However the Red Dragons netted the next four goals, including three straight by Panneton before DiStefano wrapped up the run with 4:03 left as Cortland led 6-1. 

Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, NJ / Ridge)
 snapped the streak with a goal to get MSU within 6-2 however DeLuca netted both his goals inside the final 68 seconds, the latter coming with 15 ticks left on the man-advantage at Cortland took an 8-2 lead into halftime. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Kaminski (Sayville, NY / Sayville) made three saves and had four caused turnovers for the Red Dragons, which outshot Montclair 54-16 in the contest. Scott Tota (Webster, NY / Webster Schroeder) had on save in the fourth quarter.  DeLuca was a perfect 6-of-6 on faceoffs for Cortland while Justin Battino (Plainview, NY / Plainview) was 7-of-13 with four ground balls.  Brian Winterfeldt (Merrick, NY / Calhoun), who registered an assist led the Red Dragons with six ground balls.

Junior goalkeeper Mark Glander (Vernon, NJ / Vernon Township) made 14 saves for Montclair State, which got five ground balls and four caused turnovers from senior defender Anthony Dzienkiewicz (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial)Marc Guido (North Caldwell, NJ / West Essex) recorded six faceoff wins and four ground balls. 

Montclair State is now off until Tuesday, March 15 when they host Marywood at Sprague Field beginning at 4:30 pm. The Red Hawks March 11th contest with Bard College was cancelled after Bard relegated its program to club status last week. Cortland is in action on Saturday, March 12 as they take on Gettysburg College at 1:00 pm in Massapequa, NY.
