Montclair, NJ (3/14/11) - Senior hurdler Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra), the NCAA Division III national champion in the 55 meter hurdles, and junior lacrosse midfielder Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) have been named the MSU Athletes of the Week for March 14.
Brown, who is chosen for the second time this year, claimed his second NCAA Division III national title in the last three years in the 55 meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Championships at Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. He posted a time of 7.43 seconds in the finals, setting a new Capital Center track record in the process and registering the fastest time in the Division III this season. Brown, who had not competed since February 17, ran 7.44 during the preliminaries and became the first Montclair State male to win two individual indoor national titles. He also earned his seventh All-American honor with the victory and was named the NJAC Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Delfini was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week after helping the Red Hawks to a pair of wins last week over University of Scranton and FDU-Florham. She scored five goals and added seven draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers in a 15-13 win versus Scranton, Montclair State’s first of the year. Delfini then had three goals, an assist, ground ball and caused turnover in a 12-11 overtime road win at FDU-Florham. Delfini, the 2010 Skyline Conference Player of the Year, earned her fourth career Skyline Player of the Week honor and currently leads the team with 12 goals and 14 points. She is also second on team in draw controls with 11.
