Men's Lacrosse Loses Home Contest with Plattsburgh, 16-6

Montclair, NJ (3/19/11) – Senior attack Kyle Norchi (Hauppague, NY / Hauppague) scored six times and added an assist as Plattsburgh State scored 12 of the 15 goals in the second half en route to a 16-6 win over Montclair State at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Tommy Kilderry (Glen Head, NY / North Shore) and Brett McClelland (Oswego, NY / Oswego) each tallied three goals as the Cardinals won their fourth straight following a season-opening loss to Farmingdale State.

Freshman midfielder Trevor Teel (Oakland, NJ / Don Bosco Prep) and sophomore attack Jack Skeels (Roseland, NJ / West Essex) each scored twice for the Red Hawks, who fell to 2-3 with the loss.

Norchi and Kilderry combined on the four goals in the first half as Plattsburgh led 4-3 at the break. Kilderry’s third 18 seconds into the second half gave the Cardinals a 5-3 advantage however Montclair answered right back as Skeels scored on a man-up opportunity making the score 5-4 with 11:56 left.

Plattsburgh scored the next five goals, including three in an 84-second span, two in 19 ticks. Peter Morgan (Putnam Valley, NY / Putnam) started the run with a man-up goal with 11:30 left and McClelland tally twice in 19 seconds to give Plattsburgh an 8-4 lead. Norchi collected his third on short-handed goal with 8:22 left and McClelland’s goal with 5:19 to go gave the Cardinals a 10-4 lead after three periods. 

Teel broke the run 1:23 into the fourth quarter to snap the Plattsburgh streak, but Norchi and Tim Lawrence (Kings Park, NY / Kings Park) began a mini-three goal run as the Cardinals’ lead grew to 13-5 with 8:32 left.

Junior goalkeeper Danny Caufield (Rochester, NY / McQuaid-Jesuit) made 10 saves for Plattsburgh, which outshot MSU 42-37. Mike Santisteban (Lawrence, NY / Lawrence) was 12-of-21 on faceoffs with six ground balls. Charlie Dullea (Brasher Falls, NY / St. Lawrence Central) had four caused turnovers and four ground balls while Norchi recorded seven ground balls.

Junior Mark Glander (Vernon, NJ / Vernon Township) made 12 stops for Montclair. Scott Livingstone (Fair Lawn, NJ / Fair Lawn) posted three caused turnovers and a team-best seven ground balls. 

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, March 23 as they travel to Hoboken to face Stevens at 7:00 pm. Plattsburgh is off until Wednesday, March 30 as they return home for a 4:00 pm contest with Clarkson University.
