Montclair, NJ (3/24/11) – Senior forward Kisandra Ayanbeku (Brockton, MA / Randolph) will continue on in her basketball career as the three-time All-NJAC selection was selected to play for the Hudson Valley Queens, a semi-pro organization in the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL).
Ayanbeku was selected to join the team following a tryout on March 12. The team’s debut is scheduled for early April.
Ayanbeku played a key role in helping the Red Hawks to the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament they fell to No. 15 William Paterson.
Ayanbeku led MSU in just about every statistical category, including scoring, rebounding, field goal and free-throw percentage. Appearing and starting all 27 games this past season, Ayanbeku averaged 14.1 points and 9.4 rebounds while shooting 80.2 percent from the free throw line. In addition, Ayanbeku collected 50 assists and a team-leading 53 steals. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team in the Key Largo Classic.
A two-time NJAC Player of the Week this season, Ayanbeku ranked eighth in the NJAC in scoring, third in rebounding and second in free-throw percentage. She was second in the league in double-double performances this year with 12 and scored 10 or more points in 23 of 27 games this year. She registered her first career 20-20 contest against Rutgers-Newark with 20 points and 20 rebounds on February 12.
In December, Ayanbeku became the 16th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau in MSU women's basketball history and she finished seventh with 1,313 points.
