West Point, NY (3/26/11) – Senior Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra),
fresh off his indoor national championship, turned his attention to
the outdoors finishing fifth in the 110 hurdles as the Montclair State
outdoor track and field team opened up its 2011 season on a cold and
blustery day at the Dick Shea Open held at the United States Military
Academy on Saturday.
In his first competition since winning his second indoor national
title, Brown finished fifth among the group of 14 hurdlers comprised
of Division I, II and III athletes. Brown posted a time of 15.65 in his
first outdoor meet. Brown has been the runner-up in each of the last
two NCAA Division III Championships.
Senior Mario Morrison-Bird (West Orange, NJ / West Orange)
finished had a pair of Top 15 finishes as he placed third in the
discus with a throw of 45.72 meters. He also finished 12th in the
hammer throw (39.13) meters as James Luginsland (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) and Nick DiGiacomo (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) gave MSU three Top 20 finishers in the event.
Senior Joseph Gingerelli (Wood-Ridge, NJ / Wood-Ridge) places fourth in the javelin at 14.32 meters and Jon Tancer (Montville, NJ / Montville) was sixth in the shot put at 14.32 meters. Freshman Esteban Morales (Bloomfield, NJ / Bloomfield) was 13th in the javelin (49.78 meters) with David Helterbran (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) and Rhema Boyo (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) finishing 11th and 14th, respectively.
Back on the track, Joshua Reyes (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne) finished 18th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.43.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, April 2 as they compete
at the Roadrunner Invitational at Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ.
