Montclair, NJ (3/28/11) – Freshman rightfielder Anthony Bowens (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Player of the Week on Monday. Bowens is the second Red Hawks to earn accolades this season as pitcher Zach Brown (New Vernon, NJ / Morristown) was named the Pitcher of the Week by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association on March 14.
Bowens batted .400 with five runs scored, two RBI and his first collegiate home run in a 0-3 weekend in Ohio. Bowens blasted his first career home run, a two run shot in a 6-5, 15-inning loss to Muskingum. He then went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored in a 12-8 loss vs. John Carroll and wrapped up his week with a 1-for-3 performance and a run scored in an 11-2 road loss at No. 4 Marietta. Bowens broke up a no-hit bid in the seventh inning with the double.
Bowens had a slugging percentage of .900 for the week and an on-base average of .500. For the season, Bowens is hitting .382 with nine runs scored and seven RBI.
