Women's Outdoor Track Places Fifth at Roadrunner Invitational

Mahwah, NJ (4/2/11) – Sophomore Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford)  won the 400 meter hurdles and then ran the second leg of the first-place 4x400 meter relay team as the Montclair State women’s outdoor track and field team finished fifth at the 2nd Annual Roadrunner Invitational held at Ramapo College on Saturday.

Freshman Krystal Ellis (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) was also part of the 4x400 relay and added three other Top 10 finishes as the Red Hawks totaled 57.5 points in the meet.

Gearity took top honors in the 400 meter hurdles as she won the event by almost a full second clocking in at 1:04.23. Sophomore Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ / Northern Burlington) was sixth in the event at 1:07.20. Patterson was also sixth in the 100 hurdles clocking in at 15.58 seconds.

Patterson and Gearity would comprise the first two legs of the 4x400 relay squad as the duo along with Michelle McNulty (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne) and Ellis for a time of 4:00.17. Montclair’s second team of Hannah Campbell (Forked River, NJ / Lacey), Angelina Ollo (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany), Briana Myrick (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) and Antoinetta Altilio (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) finished fourth with a time of 4:16.86.

Ellis placed seventh in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.79 seconds and then placed fifth in both the long jump (5.07 meters) and high jump (1.47 meters). Ellis and Gearity both finished with the same height. Ellis would also place 11th in the 200 meters (26.90 seconds) while Ashley Powell (Orange, NJ / Marylawn of the Oranges) was 18th at 27.42 seconds. Powell finished seventh in the 100 meters (12.96) with Judline Tumson (Newark, NJ / Arts) finishing one spot behind at 13.96 seconds.

Ollo, Myrick and Campbell each set personal bests in the 800 meters. Ollo placed seventh at 2:28.14 while Myrick was right behind at 2:28.89. Campbell placed 11th at 2:31.82. McNulty was ninth in the 400 meters (1:02.77).
Gearity, Tanasia Linton (Newark, NJ / Newark Central), Powell and Tumson placed fifth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.77.

In the field events, Sara Douma (West Milford, NJ / West Milford) finished ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.31 meters (33-feet, 10-inches) and Raye Scott (Little Silver, NJ / Red Bank Regional), competing in her first pole vault, was fifth. McNulty was ninth in the long jump (4.80 meters) and Deonna Overton (Linden, NJ / Linden) placed 16th in the shot put. Alyssa Johnson (Cliffwood Beach, NJ / Matawan) was 11th and 15th, respectively in the javelin (30.48 meters) and hammer throw (25.94 meters).

The Red Hawks are back in action next Saturday, April 9 as they compete in the Virginia State Invitational in Petersburg, VA.
