Papa was selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week after recording his first two collegiate saves during back-to-back appearances for the Red Hawks last week. He first tossed three innings of scoreless relief while striking out two for the first save of his MSU career in a 5-1 non-conference win over DeSales. Four days later in his first NJAC appearance, he secured the final four outs of the game without allowing a base runner to garner the save in the Red Hawks’ 8-5 game two conference win over Rutgers-Camden. Papa currently ranks tied for sixth in the NJAC in saves (2). In 17.2 innings pitched, Papa has struck out 12 batter and walked four while posting an ERA of 3.06.
Hill collected NJAC Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season after going 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average in 17.0 innings pitched during three appearances for MSU. She opened the week by surrendering just two hits and no walks while striking out 12 in nine scoreless innings during a 1-0 extra-inning complete game shutout of Hunter. After pitching in relief during MSU’s 6-2 game two win over Hunter, she wrapped up the week by allowing just four hits and one unearned run in seven innings of work for the first NJAC victory of her career, a 3-1 conference road win at Richard Stockton. Hill currently ranks third in the NJAC in strikeouts (54) and is second in wins (6) and fourth in earned run average (0.83).
