Morrison-Bird Gets School Record, NCAA Provisional Mark at Penn Relays

Philadelphia, PA (4/29/11) – Senior Mario Morrison-Bird (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) broke the longest-standing outdoor track and field record and also posted an NCAA Provisional mark in the discus as Montclair State competed in the Penn Relays at Franklin Field on Friday.

Morrison-Bird finished eighth in the event and registered a throw of 160-feet, 7-inches (48.96 meters), breaking the record held by Dick Shutz, who threw 160-feet, 1-inch in 1965. Morrison-Bird also put his named on the provisional list for next month’s NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held in Delaware, Ohio at Ohio Wesleyan University. 

Morrison-Bird will be in action again on Saturday as he competes in the hammer throw looking to build upon his own MSU record set two weeks again. Also Joseph Gingerelli (Wood-Ridge, NJ / Wood-Ridge) will take part in the javelin.
