Montclair, NJ (5/16/11) - Lacrosse seniors Robert Sinicola (North Caldwell, NJ / West Essex) and Kayla Henderson (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) have been named the final MSU Athletes of the Week for the 2010-11 campaign. It is the second honor for each this season.
Henderson capped off one of the outstanding careers in Montclair State history as she scored two goals along with a draw control and ground ball in the Red Hawks’ loss to sixth-ranked Franklin and Marshall in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Henderson tallied twice in the second half to push her season total to 69 goals - the second-best single-season total in Montclair State history. The All-NJAC and All-Skyline First Team pick closed out her 2011 season second on the team with 78 points and added 35 draws, 29 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. She finished sixth all time in points scored with 197 and third in goals with 171 while setting the MSU career record for draw controls with 155.
Sinicola closed out his three-year Montclair State career with three goals and three assists as the Red Hawks gave eighth-ranked Stevens all it could handle before falling to the Ducks 9-7 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship. He also added two ground balls and two casued turnovers. Sinicola helped tie the game in the third quarter as he assisted on Tyler Meth’s goal with 11:14 remaining knotting the score at 4-4. After Stevens went up 8-5, he collected an assist and goal bringing MSU within 8-7 in the fourth quarter. Sinicola finished the year as the team’s leading scorer with 54 points, including a team-best 32 assists. An All-Skyline First-Team selection, he completed his MSU career third all-time in assists (98) and ninth in points (176).
