June 22, 2011—The 2011 Curtain Call Award was presented to Montgomery, New Jersey High School junior Katherine Crabill on Saturday evening, June 4, at the John J. Cali School of Music on the Montclair State University campus.  Established last year by Montclair State University and the Metropolitan Opera Guild, the Curtain Call Award recognizes the achievements of New Jersey high school juniors and seniors who demonstrate musical talent through opera.

The other finalists in the competition were Antonia Kitsopoulos of Chatham High School, Sara Munson of Morris Knolls High School, and Sarah Finnan from Cinnaminson High School.  The four finalists were selected from a pool of applicants from around the state who submitted audition videos that were reviewed by the Metropolitan Opera Guild. The final competition included each student performing two arias.  Performances were rated by various vocal and presentation criteria.

Judging the event were Peter Gillis, adjunct vocal instructor at Montclair State; Francesca Kubian, the New Jersey Music Educators Association’s All State Opera Festival Coordinator; and Ronni Reich, The Star-Ledger’s classical music critic.
