Montclair, NJ (9/3/11) – Freshman forward Francesca Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cape May Regional) scored four goals, including the first three of the contest as Montclair State rolled past College of Mount St. Vincent, 8-0 at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday.

Senior midfielder Christina DeMartinis (Kinnelon, NJ / Kinnelon) had a pair of assists as the Red Hawks are off to a 2-0 start for the first time since the 2003 campaign. The Red Hawks did not allow a shot in the game as the goalkeeping trip of Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick)Jess Belmont (Hamilton, NJ / Steinert) and Amber Martinez (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) posted the shutout.

Senior goalkeeper Kara McNish (Hawthorne, NJ / Hawthorne) had seven saves for the Dolphins, who fell to 0-2.

Gibson put Montclair State on the board 8:40 into the game. Stephanie Barbulescu (Franklin, NJ / Pope John XXII)crossed the ball into the box onto the waiting Gibson, who knocked the ball in for her first collegiate goal. Less than five minutes later, she extended the lead to 2-0 as she converted a pass from Allison Wacker (Stockholm, NJ / Wallkill Valley)

The hat trick for Gibson came courtesy of two perfect passes by Casey Shuckers (Lincoln Park, NJ / Morris Catholic)and DeMartinis. Shuckers placed a ball to DeMartinis, whose one-touch cross found Gibson who headed the ball past McNish as Montclair State 3-0.

Wacker added a goal of her own at 21:17 and Jenna Carroll (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) finished off a feed from DeMartinis 57 seconds later as the lead grew to 5-0. Freshman Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ / Westwood)accounted for the final Montclair State goal in the first half.

Gibson registered her four goal eight minutes into the second half as she tapped in a loose ball laying in the goal mouth. She became just the fifth player in program history to score four goals in a game and the first since Kelly Dutko accomplished the feat against New Jersey City in 2006.

Junior Kelly Palmer (Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central) recorded the final Montclair State goal, her first career tally.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 6 as they host John Jay College at MSU Soccer Park in the second half of a men’s and women’s doubleheader starting at 5:00 pm.
