Volleyball's Salemo Selected NJAC Rookie of the Week

Montclair, NJ (9/5/11) – Freshman outside hitter Daniella Salemo (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) earned the first weekly honor for the Montclair State volleyball team on Monday as she was named the NJAC Rookie of the Week.

Salemo had a solid first weekend in her collegiate debut as she helped Montclair State to a runner-up finish at the NYU Labor Day Invitational. She tied for the team lead in kills with 34 as Montclair won its first three matches, starting 3-0 for the first time since 1998 before falling to No. 21 NYU in the final.

After collecting five kills and 13 digs in her first match versus Bridgewater State, she had 11 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Wentworth and then had 13 kills and 21 digs as the Red Hawks won their pool with a 3-1 triumph against Brockport. Salemo wrapped up the week with five kills and four digs in the loss to NYU.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, September 7 as they travel to New Paltz for a 7:00 pm match with the Hawks.
