Bosland, Mendoza Earn First MSU Athlete of the Week Honors for 2011-2012

Montclair, NJ (9/5/11) - Men's soccer sophomore Dan Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ / Hackensack) and junior field hockey goalkeeper Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) were named the first MSU Athletes of the Week for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Mendoza, who is named for the second time in his career, got the 25th-ranked Red Hawks off on the right foot in the 2011 season as he scored the game-winning goal in Montclair State’s 1-0 victory against New Paltz on September 2. Mendoza collected his ninth career goal as he converted a free kick from 19 yards out for the game’s only score.

Bosland was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time in her career as she helped the Red Hawks get off to a 2-0 start for the eighth time in the last 10 years. Bosland came up big with nine saves, including two consecutive shots in the closing minutes as MSU opened the year with a 2-1 upset win at No. 9 Eastern University. She followed that up with her fifth career shutout stopping six shots in a 4-0 home win versus Rensselaer. Her two victories gave her 28 for her career moving her into fourth place on the all-time MSU list for goalkeeper victories. Bosland currently leads the NJAC in goals against average (0.50 GAA) and is ranked third in saves per game (7.5).
