Parkland, WA (9/9/11) – Despite out-shooting
Pacific 16-7 and having the better run of play throughout the contest,
the Montclair State women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the
season as the Red Hawks were clipped by the Boxers, 1-0 at Pacific
Lutheran University on Friday.
Freshman goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) stopped four shots for the Red Hawks, who fell to 3-1 on the season.
An evenly-played first half, each team recorded four shots however none
would get past Policastro or Boxer goalkeeper Brittany Hartmann.
In the second half, Montclair State outshot Pacific 12-3. Policastro
came up with a huge save as she thwarted a 1-on-1 attempt by Tianna
Homad making a diving save to her right. But nine minutes later, the
Boxers put the lone goal up on the board as Jordan Bodily scored off an
assist from Bryanna DeLima.
Montclair State returns to Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, September 10 as they face the Lutes of PLU beginning at 4:00 pm.
