Montclair, NJ (9/10/11) – Sophomore forward Brittany Carroll (Kingston, NY / Rondout Valley) scored a pair of goals as Montclair State remained unbeaten improving to 4-0 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Muhlenberg College at Sprague Field on Saturday evening.
Senior Devin McNamara (Mount Royal, NJ / Gloucester Catholic) and junior Kate Norgard (Columbia, NJ / North Warren) each had a goal as the Red Hawks are off to a 4-0 start for first time since the 2008 campaign and the seventh time in the last nine years.
Senior forward Jillian Katz (Holmdel, NJ / Holmdel) had the lone goal for the Mules, who fell to 0-3 on the season.
Carroll scored the lone goal in the first half netting her third of the season at the 18:58 mark of the opening half. Sierra Rauchbach (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) fired a shot that was stopped by Kristen Dornenburg (Haverford, PA / Haverford). The ball came out to Carroll, who knocked the rebound back in for the 1-0 lead that the Red Hawks carried into halftime.

McNamara extended the lead to 2-0 with her fourth goal off an unassisted tally 5:58 into the second half and Carroll’s second of the game just under two minutes later gave the Red Hawks a three-goal advantage. Michelle Hagel (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) picked up the assist.
Muhlenberg would get on the board with their first shot of the game at 50:57 of the contest. Courtney DeAngelis (Robbinsville, NJ / Robbinsville) fed Katz for the score as the Mules got on the scoreboard. It was the first goal Montclair State had allowed since the second half of its season opener versus Eastern University, a string of 220:56 minutes.
Norgard would get that goal back for Montclair State, intercepting a pass and scoring her fourth goal of the year with 3:25 to play.
Dornenburg made nine saves for Muhlenberg while Montclair State keeper Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) stopped two shots. MSU finished with a 23-4 advantage in shots and a 13-5 margin in penalty corners.
Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, September 13 as they open up New Jersey Athletic Conference play at Kean University with a 7:00 pm start in Union. Muhlenberg is back home the following day (September 14) hosting Drew University at 7:30 pm.
